Job description:

We are currently seeking a reliable and hardworking Cyclical Gully Emptying Operative (non-driver) to join our client’s highways maintenance team.  Working as part of a 2-person crew, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient cleaning of gully (drains) across West Devon as part of the Council’s term maintenance contract.

This is a vital role in maintaining the counties drainage infrastructure, helping to prevent flooding and ensure road safety for all users.

Requirements for this role:-

• Operate gully emptying vehicles and associated equipment to clean and maintain roadside drainage assets. This role also involves a large amount of manual work especially when hand digging drains to ensure the water flow continues.
• Work from scheduled routes and respond to ad-hoc requests as required.
• Accurately record completed work using handheld devices or paper logs.
• Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with health and safety regulations and company procedures.
• Liaise with supervisors and other team members to ensure efficient service delivery.

Successful candidates for the role of Gully Emptying Operative should have:-

• Ability to work as part of a team
• Ability to carry out work to a high standard
• Good communication skills

Applicants must have:

• Full drivers license
• CSCS card (Preferred)
• Driving license with no more than 6 points considered
• Good timekeeping skills
• Willingness and flexibility to undertake some shifts out of normal working hours
• Willingness to carry out other tasks upon request

Hours of work:

Monday – Friday , days or nights.

Rate of Pay:

• £12.75 – £13.00 per hour
• Overtime at 150% after 40 hours Monday – Friday, nights and Saturdays
• Standby payments for being on call Monday – Thursday or Friday – Sunday

These will be PAYE positions so you will benefit from:

• Overtime at overtime rates
• No umbrella payments or fees
• Only Tax and National Insurance deductions and this will be shown on your payslip.
