The world of job titles can be a confusing one. To help you, we have put together a directory-style listing for some of the jobs that Paramount Personnel advertise.

Commis Chef

A commis chef assists a chef de partie or a section chef. As a commis chef, you will be required to prepare and cook food working in a specific section of the kitchen. Depending on the hotel or restaurant you work for you may have to rotate sections every so often, this will give you the opportunity to learn more about your trade and develop your skills in different areas.

Chef de Partie

A Chef de Partie prepares much of the food that comes out of a restaurant’s kitchen.  They work under the supervision of a Sous Chef or Head Chef and are assigned a particular place on the line, such as the vegetable prep area, stove or grill.  As food orders come into the kitchen, Chef de Partie’s working at a particular kitchen station start preparing the portions of the order that their particular kitchen area is responsible for.

Sous Chef

A Sous Chef is often the one who leads the brigade.  The role is challenging and as Sous Chef you are expected to make sure the brigade is producing top-quality cuisine and ensuring the chefs with talent are trained and developed.  As Sous Chef you will have to take charge of the kitchen in the Head Chef’s absence.

Head Chef

A Head Chef is someone everyone in the brigade, from the Kitchen Porter to the Sous Chef, look to for inspiration and has to hold their own with the front-of-house restaurant staff too.  As Head Chef your menus will set the tone for the restaurant, and the quality and pricing of the food produced could make or break the business.

Highways Maintenance Operative

A Highways Maintenance Operative helps to build new roads and pavements, and repair or improve existing ones. Work may include repairing potholes and cracks, widening roads, digging access trenches for supplies such as gas, telephone or water, and re-surfacing roads so that they are safe for motorists and pedestrians.
